Critique from Ms R Wallis (VIC)
May 2000
First of all I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to judge your
Championship Show, this has been one of the highlights of my judging career.
I also appreciated your good sportsmanship in accepting my decisions.
Most would have realised early in my judging that I was looking for a Golden
with depth of body, substance and overall balance. I was also trying to reward
dogs with level toplines and head planes in each class where possible.
Eye colour was exceptional throughout the whole entry. It was wonderful to see
such dark brown eye colour in all but a handful of exhibits. Strong scissor
bites with full dentition was apparent in almost all exhibits.
I feel the depth of quality in the bitches was more pronounced that the dogs,
which bodes well for the future of the breed.
Both my Challenge Dog and Bitch exhibited the hallmark characteristics of a
typical Golden Retriever and whilst my final decision was very close the bitch
won the day with her exceptional, smooth movement and her outstanding happy
temperament.
Once again thank you for such a wonderful day and young marvellous hospitality.
